4 Essential Elements to Bring Your Painting to Life

Dan will share not only his painting techniques, but also his thought process for creating a painting that conveys tenderness, connection, and story. Using a young girl and her cat as his subject, he’ll explore how value, edges, color, and design work together to capture the quiet beauty and grace of a moment.

In this session, you will:

• Establish a strong value structure to create luminous light, solid form, and a clear focal point while maintaining the softness of the subject.
• Capture character and emotion by looking beyond literal details to the subtle qualities that make a person or moment feel genuine and alive.
• Use thoughtful edge control to guide the viewer’s eye and create delicate transitions between skin, hair, clothing, and the cat’s soft fur.
• Explore warm and cool color relationships to create harmony, depth, natural radiance, and emotional mood.

Throughout the demonstration, Dan will show how these elements can move a painting beyond simply depicting what we see to creating something personal, intimate, and alive.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there to share in the inspiration!!!
