4 Essential Elements to Bring Your Painting to Life

Dan will share not only his painting techniques, but also his thought process for creating a painting that conveys tenderness, connection, and a sense of story. Using a young girl and her cat as his subject, he’ll explore how thoughtful decisions about value, edges, color, and design can help us capture the quiet beauty and grace within a moment.

In this session, you will:

• Learn how to establish a strong value structure that creates luminous light, solid form, and a clear focal point while preserving the softness and tenderness of the subject.
• Explore how to capture character and emotion by looking beyond the literal details and identifying the subtle qualities that make a person or moment feel genuine and alive.
• Discover how thoughtful edge control can guide the viewer’s eye, create atmosphere, and describe the delicate transitions between skin, hair, clothing, and the cat’s soft fur.
• Understand how warm and cool color relationships can create harmony, depth, and natural radiance while helping to establish the mood and emotional feeling of the painting.

Throughout the demonstration, Dan will show how these elements work together to move beyond simply painting what we see and instead create a painting that feels personal, intimate, and alive.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there to share in the inspiration!!!
